International Car & Vehicle Shipping from the UK

Ship a car, motorbike, classic vehicle, plant or machinery from the UK using a route-appropriate RoRo or container service, with responsibilities and costs set out before booking.

Plan before you book

A UK vehicle-shipping plan built around the actual car and route

If you need to ship a car from the UK, Jenkar coordinates international vehicle shipping for private owners, dealers and businesses. We start with eligibility, vehicle condition, dimensions, origin, destination and timing before comparing a feasible method.

RoRo and container services have different carrier, terminal and cargo rules. Customs, tax, registration and technical requirements also vary by destination, so they need checking before the movement is booked.

For a permanent export lasting 12 months or more, the registered keeper must follow the GOV.UK and DVLA permanent-export process. Commercial and other exports may also need a customs declaration; GOV.UK explains when an export declaration is required.

Read our international car-shipping guide for the method, document, preparation and cost checklist.

Choose by vehicle and route

RoRo or container shipping?

Use RoRo when a suitable running or rollable vehicle is accepted on the required route. Consider a container when enclosure, a specific loading plan or approved additional cargo matters. Neither method is universally cheaper, faster or safer.

Purpose-built vehicle service

Roll-on, roll-off (RoRo)

The vehicle rolls onto and off a vessel using ramps. Availability and acceptance depend on the ports, route, carrier rules, vehicle condition and dimensions.

Typical fit
Running or rollable cars and machinery accepted by the carrier
Important checks
Starts, steers, rolls and brakes; dimensions; modifications; leaks; keys and alarm
Cargo rules
Personal items and loose cargo are normally restricted; follow the booked carrier's written instructions
Enclosed sea movement

Container shipping

The vehicle is loaded and secured inside a container. Feasibility depends on the vehicle, door and internal dimensions, loading equipment, securing plan and ports.

Typical fit
Selected classic, high-value or non-running vehicles, or approved additional cargo
Important checks
Exact dimensions, ground clearance, weight, loading access, securing points and container type
Cost drivers
Container capacity, loading, securing, handling, sea freight and destination unloading
Common movements

The journey

From eligibility check to agreed handover

01

Check & scope

We review the vehicle, route, import eligibility, dates and required origin and destination services.

02

Quote & assign

The written quote states the proposed method, inclusions, exclusions, documents, customs roles and handover points.

03

Prepare & move

Vehicle preparation follows the booked carrier's instructions; loading, securing and transport are coordinated to the agreed plan.

04

Clear & hand over

Agreed customs and destination services are coordinated, with milestone updates available for the selected carrier and route.

Responsibilities made visible

A clear scope from collection to handover

The quote and booking should identify the carrier method, loading responsibility, condition evidence, customs parties, destination charges, optional insurance and final handover. Updates depend on the milestones made available by the selected carrier and route.

Ask our team
Start with the destination country's import and registration rules, then provide the vehicle details, running condition, ownership documents, route and timing. Jenkar can compare available RoRo or container services, scope UK export and destination arrangements, and explain what the quote includes before booking.
RoRo can suit running or rollable vehicles on supported routes and subject to carrier rules. A container adds enclosure and can suit selected high-value, non-running or additional approved cargo, but loading method, dimensions and port handling affect feasibility and cost. The right option depends on the actual vehicle and route.
There is no reliable flat price. Cost depends on the vehicle's size, weight and running status, origin and destination, RoRo or container method, collection, port and carrier charges, customs work, insurance and destination handling. Ask for an itemised scope so quotes can be compared like for like.
Requirements depend on the owner, sale, route and destination. Common starting information includes the V5C, proof of identity and ownership or purchase, vehicle identification details and customs data. For a permanent export lasting 12 months or more, GOV.UK says the registered keeper must tell DVLA and follow the V5C permanent-export process.
Potentially, subject to route, carrier, terminal, lifting and securing requirements. Tell us whether it starts, steers, rolls and brakes, plus the exact dimensions, weight, ground clearance, modifications, lifting points and photographs. Jenkar will confirm whether a suitable method can be quoted.
Jenkar can scope UK export or import declaration support and, where available and agreed, coordinate destination clearance and delivery through partners. The importer or owner remains responsible for accurate information, taxes and meeting destination import, registration and technical rules. The written quote will state included services and responsibilities.
