Customs CDS Due to Go Live This Weekend

News

HMRC is introducing the Customs Declaration Service (CDS) from 1st October (this weekend) which is a replacement to the CHIEF system that currently handles customs declarations.

If importers have not prepared they may already face delays from next week, and we suggest urgently reviewing and actioning the below items:

You must have a Government Gateway Account

You will need to ensure you have a Government Gateway account. If you do not have one register here.

You must register for the Customs Declaration Service (CDS)

Since it can take up to 5 working days to complete your registration for CDS we advise to start this process NOW! You can register here.  You will need your Government Gateway User ID (as above) and your password. You will also need:

– Your GB EORI number
– Your Unique Tax Reference (UTR) number
– The address of your business held on Customs records
– Your National Insurance number (sole traders only)
– The date you started your business

You must be set up for payment of VAT & Duty

If you have a customs deferment account, please be aware that CDS uses a different bank account to CHIEF, so you need to set up a new direct debit, you can do this here

You will also need to re-authorise Jenkar to use your deferment account, which is done in the CDS Finance Dashboard, find out more here.

If you do not have a customs deferment account, you will need to advise Jenkar how you wish to pay Duty & VAT from the new CDS payment methods – more details can be found here.

Jenkar are here to assist with the changes. Should you require more information on the above, or details of our customs declaration and brokerage services, then please do not hesitate to contact us.
