Heathrow Strike May Impact World Cup

Air Freight, News

Strike action from ground handlers, which is planned this month, may have an impact on English and Welsh supporters flying out for the beginning of the Qatar World Cup.

Currently, Unite union members at the airport have set a three day walk out from November 18th to November 21st. If this goes ahead it is likely to cause disruption, cancellations and delays to flights through Heathrow Terminals 2,3 & 4.

Workers from dnata and Menzies are planning their action as part of a cost of living pay dispute, and Qatar Airways are one of the airlines expected to be most disrupted, due to an additional 10 flights per week being scheduled during the World Cup.

The competition itself is due to start on November 20th, with both England and Wales having fixtures during the planned action. It is not just Qatar Airways who will be affected; Virgin, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Emirates are amongst those expected to encounter problems of the strike proceeds.

Of course, any industrial action will impact air freight services too.
