New Surcharge Introduced At Felixstowe

News, Sea Freight

Felixstowe port has recently announced an Energy Adjustment Levy (EAL), which is aimed at recovering recent rises in energy prices, effective for imports from 1st May 2022.

In their announcement, the port advised that its energy bills have increase by 100% during the past year, allowing for its use of wholesale gas, electricity and diesel.

The EAL (Energy Adjustment Levy) will be £11.25 per import container.
*To be reviewed quarterly.

The levy will be charged to importers through their customs clearance party. This will not impact export movements due to the difficulties in determining the cost impact per container, as so many leave the UK empty.

At this moment in time, there is no indication whether or not other UK ports will follow Felixstowe’s lead. Should you require further information on the above, then please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Jenkar team.
