HMRC are moving declarations to the new CDS service from September 2023, the current system CHIEF will close at the end of November. There are some distinct differences between making declarations through CDS compared to CHIEF. Follow our advice to ensure you’re ready!

Key differences between chief and the customs declaration service

  1. Register with CDS if you have not already done so, importers already using CDS do not need to register again https://www.gov.uk/guidance/get-access-to-the-customs-declaration-service
  2. Ensure your commercial documents include all relevant details:
    o Consignor Name & address
    o Consignee Name & address
    o Invoice Number
    o Invoice Date
    o Goods Description
    o Commodity Code
    o Value & Currency
    o Weight
    o Incoterms & Place (e.g. FOB Felixstowe)
