Asia/Europe Ocean Schedule Reliability At All Time Low

News

The published schedule reliability for ocean freight services from Asia to Europe is currently at an all time low.

There have recently been more updates and amendments to vessel departure and arrival dates than at any other time during the pandemic.

The reasons for this seem to be twofold:

Firstly, port congestion and sporadic, covid related terminal and port closures in China have led to many departures being delayed by up to 14 days. This has become the norm rather than the exception.

Secondly, European ports are also struggling with major congestion, which is resulting in many containers, that are destined for the UK, being backlogged in ports such as Antwerp, which is reportedly four weeks behind in its feeder operations.

Since some Asia/UK services are now omitting direct port calls in the UK, the slow turn around times on the continent, coupled with China port delays, can add weeks to advertised transit times.

Jenkar continue to monitor the situation closely, and as always will do all we can to find solutions that mitigate delays.
