Felixstowe Set For Eight Day Strike In August

News, Sea Freight

Port workers at the UK’s largest container port have set dates for their expected strike, and are planning to walk out from Sunday 21st August until Monday 29th August.

Members of the Unite Union held a ballot recently and 92% voted to strike, following a dispute over pay. In a subsequent round of talks the port raised its offer from a 5% to 7% rise, but Unite claim that, with inflation over 11%, this is still effectively a pay cut.

A strike at Felixstowe, especially for this length of time, will cause major disruption to many of the UK’s supply chains, therefore we very much hope a resolution can be found in time.

Jenkar will continue to monitor the situation closely and will update any major developments.
