Chaos at Dover & Folkestone This Weekend

News, Road Freight

Drivers were held up in queues of up to 5 hours at Dover between Friday and Sunday, leading the port into declaring a ‘critical incident’.

As Dover struggled to cope, travellers looked for alternative routings and similar delays were then experienced at Folkestone’s Eurotunnel terminal.

The delays are believed to be connected to Brexit, post pandemic demand and additional holiday season demand. However, Dover were not slow to blame staff levels at French immigration, while the French were quick to blame Dover.

The situation has started to clear, but there are fears that this could easily be repeated during the summer, which will have a negative impact on European transport.

Dover/Calais remains the primary route for moving goods in and out of the UK and any ongoing disruption is always likely to lead to delays in freight movements.

Jenkar are monitoring the situation and will advise further of any major developments.
