Shanghai Disruption Following Lockdowns

Air Freight, News, Sea Freight

The city of Shanghai has just entered the first stage of a two-part lockdown, which will bring more logistics disruption and further delays to the region.

From today the eastern side of the city is in full lockdown until Friday, with the western side shut down between April 1st and 5th.

The Omicron variant has been spreading in China, which operates a no tolerance approach to outbreaks of Covid, with Shanghai being the latest region affected.

The port and airports are expected to remain open but a lack of trucking availability, due to stringent regulations on truck movements, is likely to lead to major delays for both air and ocean freight.

Meanwhile, this month’s lockdown in the Shenzhen area has now been relaxed and while congestion is still causing delays, the ports are beginning to return to normal.
